Wing Stand
The wing stand was a slightly modified Tim Olson design. I used 2x6 10 foot long for the horizontal supports and changed the bracing method for the leading edge support. If I were to do it again I would use a 2x4 for the long horizontal support. That is what Albert Gardner (builder #40422 Yuma, AZ) did. There are photos towards the bottom of this page showing Albert's wing stand. Since he doesn't have the leading edges and tanks on yet, a 2x4 in instead of the carpet loop is used to support the spar. This is what Albert has to say "I previously built a RV-9A and storing the wings until they were needed as well as the ailerons, flaps, and tips was a major PITA. The stand that I found on Larry Rosen's web site was simple to build and only cost me about $20 for 2X4's - I got the carpet free - and $18 for Harbor Freight casters. The dimensions were included so total assembly time was about 3 hours. It will work well for holding the wing for construction as well as storage later. I think I can attach the ailerons, flaps, and tips to keep them safe and out-of-the-way as well."
